Doctors are overpaid and overrated for sure, the argument that they spend more time in school or pay more than other education courses doesn't justify why people have to pay for their loan debts. Being healthy is the most important thing for every being on earth, and there are lot of things that are blocking it even after all advancements we had in medical field, greed is one of them thats where AI could help us by reducing the charges.

  3. I think it's very good idea to collect data from patients and then do analytics on it (may be really helpful). But nowadays there is so many problems associated with that.

    The biggest question is – How to ensure privacy?
    – de-identify makes sense, but every system of present – for sure has security issues and for people it's risky to trust third-party, sometimes even government.

    There is so much hype about crypto – decentralized – anonymity nowadays, people are more afraid about privacy, and in case of health it is maybe even more, nobody want to have it public.

    On one side – it can enormously help healthcare, predict diseases. On the other hand it can be used for bad purposes in easy way..

  4. Which is this "App" they keep talking about? Its unclear how much work the app developer has to do vs what is facilitated by Watson. Does Watson provide all recommendations "automatically" or someone has to create specific models manually and Watson only acts as a data and compute power that "enables" the model development?

  6. There is missing aspect I feel is very important- diet. At the end of the day there are many health issues associated with what we eat. Watson should also have this info. Instead of using pills or changing pills people should try to change their eating and exercise habits for many illnesses. Watson could design the best diets based on the what the person eats and how their health/illness are impacted by their diet.

Only examples here from people with health issues, but what if i`m ok and refuse to live a "healthy" life? what happens is i refuse to be constantly monitored by a private company, that is providing this data to my health insureance company? will they drop me out if i don`t agree to be monitored? and doctors and health ensurance don`t work with anonymus data. SO PLEASE stop talking about pregnant women, sick children and chronical ill patient. the health insurance system just works because most of the people are not sick and just pay their fees… the problem is not the KI that`s behind this, the problem is liberal thinking that sees private data as capital and not a private right.

  18. This does not sit well with private or government clinics if the doctors have a hand in the decisiconmaking. It could seem to them to undermind their medical degree or expertise. This is a tool, but it has to be forced into the hands of the medical community, and the best way to do that is through government. And i think, being slightly biased, that a good place to push hard on that is in scandinavia!

  19. My initial thought was privacy but then when they de-identify it makes more sense. I think this has loads of implications – it says the dr is more accountable but I think a doctor will actually take less responsibility – this does also mean that you can go to the dr once and then if you have the app it can make recommendations for you without having to consult one and then saving costs?!

  21. The clip says that Watson is using family history from other doctors or insurance providers and even uses the live data from his Fitbit device. Later it says that all the information is private and anonymous. I am wondering how this works together?
